The Cortijo Romero Holiday Experience

When you choose a holiday at Cortijo Romero, you’re getting the retreat of your choice as the main ingredient – but there are several others in the recipe that go to make up what many people describe as the best holiday they’ve ever had.

The mountain setting is stunning, with clear, uplifting air and spectacular views. The centre itself is often described as a haven, with the traditionally whitewashed, Andalucian buildings dotted amongst numerous trees and flowering shrubs in lovingly-tended gardens. The pool, a major component of holidays during the summer months, is irresistibly inviting (even at midnight for some!) being surrounded by mountains and the scent of jasmine.

Every day, before breakfast, you are welcome to enjoy yoga or tai chi on the roof terrace. Salute to the Sun (a yoga movement) takes on a whole new dimension when the sun is rising amid the mountain peaks before your eyes!

Exploring the Region

Each week there is a day to explore the mountains, Las Alpujarras, including a gentle hike amid breath-taking scenery, a picnic and visits to picturesque, unspoilt villages of the region. During the hotter months many people take the opportunity to cool off in the waterfalls en route. There is also a weekly market in our local town, Órgiva, a 15 minute walk away. If you choose to visit, you may like to stop for coffee or a glass of wine in one of the little Spanish cafes that line the square.
Massage, Coaching and Counselling

Holistic and coaching sessions, although not included in the holiday, are offered on site by our resident practitioners. Many people tell us this is an important aspect of their week, with sessions being of a high standard and very reasonable cost.

Making Connections

Cortijo Romero is easy to get to, and if you’re drawn to this type of holiday, you’re likely to meet others who you’ll enjoy connecting with too. The maximum group size is about 30, and that’s when, during the summer months, we have two retreats running each week. This can make for a lively and stimulating atmosphere, particularly as people tend to quickly bond with those on their own retreat, and then at mealtimes and in between the retreat sessions, to also meet and get to know the people on the other retreat. However, what many people appreciate is that there is also time and space to get away and be on your own if you wish.

And people love the food! For some, this would be at the top of the page, as it’s considered such a highlight of the week! All vegetarian, dishes are widely varied and created with love and imagination by our highly devoted cooks. Non-vegetarians tend to be pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoy the food, and many say they didn’t miss meat one bit – however, there are a few who’ll pop down to the local town for a steak and a beer at some point during the week! Dietary needs are catered for in a way that people can often find hard to believe when they see the lengths to which the cooks go to prepare dishes, often for several different needs as well as the group as a whole.
